Optimize Your Law Firm Google Business Profile
A Google Business Profile is essentially a digital storefront. You want all the information listed there to be accurate and to represent what your business does and how you can be valuable to someone who is searching on Google for a product or service you provide. There are steps you can take to further optimize the profile so that you have a better chance of showing up in the Google search results and I have listed them below.
1. Business Category: In the first image (1) you will see that they are listed as a “Personal injury attorney in Denver, Colorado”. Although this seems straightforward, you may be surprised by how many law firms are listed as a standard “attorney” or “law firm” for this category. Providing your practice area within your business category greatly helps Google identify the type of business.
2. Reviews: In the first image (1) you can see the number and rating of Google reviews right below the firm name. This is a very big indicator for Google in determining what business to show so we encourage our clients to always ask for a review when they have a happy customer.
3. Products: In the second image (2) you can see that they have listed out all of the products they offer. For Law Firms, this can be the different types of practice areas you offer such as “New York Car Accident Lawyers” or “New York Slip and Fall Lawyers”. Adding in the location along with the practice area gives the profile a slight boost when someone searches with a location in mind.
4. Social Profiles: In the second image (2) you can see they linked all of their social media profiles to their GBP. This is something we recommend for all of our clients and should be done if you have social accounts. You can see under “reviews” that they linked their Facebook account and they currently have a review form on it. Google has pulled the form results from Facebook and is currently showing them in the GBP, which increases credibility.
5. GBP Updates: In the third image (3) towards the bottom, you can see that the firm has been continuously posting updates. This lets you provide information about different practice areas, and cases you may have been working on which lets Google know that you are an active firm that is actively taking cases.
6. Q&A: In the third image (3) you can see “Questions & Answers”. We always recommend replying to every question that is sent into the GBP as quickly as possible.
All of these factors are pieces of the puzzle in determining how often you show up for searches related to your practice. The Business Category and Products sections let Google know what solutions you can solve for its searchers. The Reviews and Social Profiles give credibility to your company, displaying that you provide quality work and solutions to searchers’ problems, and the Q&A and GBP update shows Google that your firm is active and responsive which has been an increasing indicator in determining how often you show in the rankings.
