Does your law firm website fail to generate the leads you had hoped for? You’ve invested time and resources into SEO, even experimented with some AI-generated content, but the phone still isn’t ringing any more than before.
You should ask yourself — what if the strategy you thought was best practice is in fact, preventing you from being found by your ideal clients?
Where trust and authenticity hold critical importance, you might be paying a high price for depending on algorithms to write your message. We went deeper into Google’s results for competitive legal terms and found some surprising numbers.
In short, Nothing works better than just actually writing real content like a human if you want to reach your ideal clients.
What’s Inside
What you’re about to read isn’t just another SEO report. This is an eye-opening investigation into the battle between human content and AI in Google’s search results—and why, for law firms, human-written content is the only way to win consistently.
We conducted a deep-dive analysis of search results for competitive legal terms to prove this. Our focus was clear: find out how often AI content creeps into top rankings and how human-generated content holds its ground.
Our Methodology
We strategically decided what to use to conduct this research. All tools and results are not equal, and to give the most impactful and meaningful results, this was our approach:
- Tools Used: The Originality AI Detector was employed to determine the confidence percentage of whether the content was AI or human-generated.
- Sample Data: A selection of high-traffic commercial and informational legal keywords was analyzed. Only law firm websites were included in the results. The analysis covered a total of 105 SERP results, with 56 commercial keyword results and 49 informational keyword results. This thorough analysis provides a detailed look into how human and AI-generated content perform in competitive legal search queries.
- Exclusions: News publications, forums, and directory sites were excluded to focus on law firm-generated content.
Key Insights For Attorneys To Be Aware Of
- Human Content Dominates Top Rankings
- 85% of top 3 results for commercial keywords had over 90% human-generated content. This shows that Google heavily favors human-written material in competitive legal niches.
- Higher Human Content = Better Rankings
- Search results with more than 80% human content are 2x more likely to rank in the top 5, reinforcing the importance of expertise and authenticity.
- AI Prevalence in Informational Queries
- AI-generated content appears more frequently in informational searches, with some queries showing over 50% AI content in lower rankings. Despite this, human content still outperforms AI in trust-based legal advice.
- Long-Term Value of Human Content
- Search results with less than 70% human content were 60% more likely to rank lower than position 7, suggesting that AI-generated content struggles to maintain high rankings.
What You Must Keep In Mind
Attorneys using AI-generated content may be losing out on up to 60% of potential traffic due to lower search engine rankings, particularly for competitive commercial legal terms. Our analysis found that search results with less than 70% human content were 60% more likely to rank below position 7, where traffic drops off significantly.
In high-stakes practice areas like personal injury, criminal defense, and family law, this could mean attorneys in competitive states like New York, California, and Texas are missing out on substantial business due to AI-driven content that fails to resonate with Google’s algorithms and, more importantly, potential clients.
For law firms relying on AI content, this drop in rankings could lead to losing tens of thousands of dollars in revenue every month. Investing in human-generated content not only secures better rankings but also builds trust with prospective clients, something AI struggles to replicate.
