Website Alone Is No Longer Enough

There was a time not too long ago when simply having a web presence at all could place you on the cutting edge of attorney advertising. This may seem shocking on the surface, but not when you consider the context that the era of attorney advertising only began as recently as 1977 via the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bates v State Bar of Arizona decision.

The initial venue for most attorney and law firm advertising was newspapers ads and the yellow pages. Eventually park benches, bus and taxi advertisements became commonplace, but things changed for good once the World Wide Web became a part of our everyday lives in the last 90s and 2000s.

When advertising moved online, attorneys and law firms could set themselves apart by simply having a website. Those days are long gone. Today, it is expected that you will have a website. In order to keep up or surpass the competition, the following are must haves:

  • Mobile-responsive website: Over half of web users access the web via mobile devices. It is crucial to have a mobile-responsive website that meets current best practices for search engine optimization (SEO) and accessibility.
  • Social media presence: You don’t have to be regularly going viral on TikTok, but you do need to have a presence on social media and publish posts and stories frequently to remain in touch with potential clients.
  • Google Business Profile: Having an up-to-date and accurate Google Business Profile is the first step to making it to the first page of Google search results. It is also important to have a regular flow of reviews that other users can view as they consider you for their legal needs.

Not sure where to start in bringing your web presence into 2022? That is no problem. You can turn to the marketing professionals at Above the Bar Marketing to handle all of your digital marketing needs.
